As part of the pooling of achievements from the SWEDD project
financed by
the World Bank
Among the beneficiaries, the Regional Technical Committee (RTC) recommended at its annual meeting held in March 2021 the facilitation of knowledge management and the sharing of good practices developed by the countries. A recommendation reaffirmed at
u CRP
from 2022 highlighting the need to strengthen mechanisms for sharing experiences between countries through a virtual resource platform, the creation of thematic exchange forums.
To respond to this call,
The World Bank, which is financing the project, asked
UNFPA, the project's technical assistance partner, is setting up a mechanism to promote the sharing of experiences and skills between countries.
It is within this framework and in close consultation with the SWEDD countries and the World Bank that the process of setting up a knowledge management platform was
designed
.
The objective of this platform is to improve the management of knowledge generated by the SWEDD project by building on the project's achievements and disseminating the resulting best practices. The knowledge management platform comprises two components: resource documentation, which will make these resources available to beneficiaries.

To promote better Knowledge Management and improved operational efficiency of the Community of Practice, the STR, in collaboration with the countries
and the regional organizations that are part of the project

in particular the WAHO

have
planned a series of webinars starting in 2024.
In light of the implementation of the project's integrated intervention packages, the results and best practices identified,

as part of the webinars.
Justification for the choice of
Ivory Coast
As part of the SWEDD project in Côte d'Ivoire, the Ministry in charge of National Education
,
A major player in component 1.2 is leading the sub-project "Improving the retention of girls in the first cycle of secondary education".

This Education sub-project aims
to r
enforce
r: (i)
the supervision and
d
the learning conditions of schoolgirls
and (ii)
the knowledge of schoolgirls regarding sexual and reproductive health and life skills
.
In the response to the achievement
of the two specific objectives mentioned above
,
the Ministry in charge of National Education
a
identified three activities
Key elements whose implementation has led to significant results are:
'Food assistance intended to address the issue of food vulnerability among some adolescent girls and young schoolgirls'
 ;
the facilitation of safe spaces in schools aimed at strengthening the life skills of adolescent girls and young women in grades 6 to 3

for:
Statistics from the Ministry of Education
National studies have consistently shown that two-thirds of school pregnancies involve girls in this educational cycle.
over the period
from 2013 to 2015
et
finally
,
Providing support to girls through tutoring in Mathematics and French, with the aim of raising the low level of girls or those who are not very gifted in these fundamental subjects.
.
For
to obtain results
more significant
in this sub-project of
to maintain the girl in the first cycle of secondary education, the Ministry has
caught in
takes into account the school ecosystem,
by developing a strategy to (i) involve the
school stakeholders in the implementation of activities
, (ii) e
exploit the potential of each player
and (iii) a
to ensure good collaboration between the school and its partners
external
around the project's objectives
.
Also, in addition to the coordination, monitoring and judicial management system for interventions that has been put in place,
'school environment in which the project's interventions take place'
vent
relates to the school year calendar, priority educational activities, and extracurricular activities
.
Taking into account
the complex school environment

and the skillful planning of the development of everyday life skills
made it possible to obtain very encouraging results at the halfway point of SWEDD 2: (a)
97,9% of the girls received support through the completion of 2 cohorts in 2023
or,
69496 out of 70980 planned
 (b) more than
3000 girls received school meals in 15 colleges, and 97% of these beneficiaries were regularly present in class for the 35 days of the program in 2023.
etc)
in 2023, 0,08% (55) of the girls mentored (
65686)
through the SWEDD project contracted a pregnancy compared to 1,14% (
1674
) unmentored girls (
81

122
) in the 212 institutions. The mentoring program helps reduce the risk
to young girls
d
contracting a
pregnancy

more than 26 times.

The analysis of the strategy deployed in Côte d'Ivoire to keep girls in school has highlighted lessons learned such as (i)
'The existence of a supportive environment is a real asset for keeping girls in school'
and (ii) l
'involvement of school stakeholders in the implementation of preferred interventions'
e
massive participation and sufficient skills development among beneficiaries
.
It's this experience
on innovative approaches to keeping girls in school deployed in Côte d'Ivoire
which will be the subject of
'animation in this second
webinar
of the SWEDD project.
